What it can include

No package. A plan built for you.

A mommy makeover combines the procedures that address what has changed for you. Most plans draw on three.

01

Tummy tuck with muscle repair

Removes loose skin of the lower abdomen and repairs abdominal muscles that separated during pregnancy (diastasis recti). Dr. Tehrani uses the lateral tension technique, which he learned directly from its developer, the late Dr. Ted E. Lockwood.

  • A low incision, placed to sit within underwear or bikini lines
  • An existing C-section scar can often be incorporated
  • Removes stretch marks only on the skin that is removed
02

Breast lift, augmentation, or both

A lift raises and reshapes breasts that sit lower after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Implants restore volume. The two can be combined in one procedure, with implant type, size and profile chosen for your frame.

  • VECTRA® 3D simulation to compare options before you decide
  • Silicone or saline implants, or your own fat for a modest change
  • Breast surgery can change nipple sensation and may affect breastfeeding
03

Liposuction

Refines stubborn fullness at the waist, flanks, hips or thighs, and is often paired with a tummy tuck to shape the waistline all the way around.

  • Shapes the body; it is not a weight-loss procedure
  • Results hold best at a stable weight you can maintain

Also discussed at consultation: breast reduction, arm or thigh lift, labiaplasty, fat transfer and non-surgical skin tightening.

Breast implants are not lifetime devices and may require additional surgery. FDA breast implant information (opens in a new tab)

Meet Dr. Tehrani

Kevin Tehrani, MD, FACS

Diplomate, American Board of Plastic Surgery · Fellow, American College of Surgeons · In practice for over 25 years

Many women come to a mommy makeover consultation with a list of changes and a calendar full of other people's needs. My role is to help you decide what is worth addressing, whether it should happen in one surgery or two, and how to plan a recovery that works with children at home.

Safety sets the limits. I limit anesthesia time to six hours, because the risk increases meaningfully after that. If your plan would take longer, we talk about doing it in stages.

You should leave your consultation understanding exactly what is proposed, why, what recovery will ask of you and your family, and what the risks are. Then decide in your own time.

Timing and safety

Is now the right time?

Honest answers before you plan, including when waiting is the better choice.

Signs you may be ready

  • At least six months after your last pregnancy, and three months after you finish breastfeeding, as Dr. Tehrani generally recommends
  • Finished having children, or happy to wait: a future pregnancy can change your results
  • At or near a stable weight you can maintain
  • In good health, and a non-smoker or able to stop as directed
  • Help at home for the first weeks, and realistic expectations about scars and recovery

Not sure it's time? Ask about timing at a consultation, even if surgery is a year or more away.

Combine or stage?

A decision made for your safety.

Combining procedures can mean one anesthetic and one recovery period. A longer operation can also raise certain risks, including blood clots. Dr. Tehrani weighs your health, your goals and the time your plan requires before recommending one surgery or two.

Where
QUAD A–accredited operating rooms; your coordinator confirms the location for your plan
Anesthesia
General anesthesia given by a board-certified anesthesiologist or a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA)
Time limit
Anesthesia time limited to six hours
After
Early walking, compression garments and scheduled follow-up visits

Every surgery has risks. A mommy makeover's risks include bleeding, infection, fluid collection, poor wound healing, blood clots, changes in sensation, scarring, asymmetry, anesthesia risks and implant-related risks. Dr. Tehrani reviews them with you at your consultation.

Recovery with children

Recovery, planned around your family.

A typical timeline, so you can arrange help before surgery. Dr. Tehrani gives you a personal plan.

  1. Week 1 Rest, with help at home

An adult helper with you, compression garments and short walks around the house. Drains, if used, are checked at your follow-up visits.

  2. Weeks 2–3 Light tasks return

Discomfort eases and light activity resumes. Plan at least two weeks away from work and caregiving; many patients take two to four.

  3. Weeks 4–6 Back to work for many

Most daily activities resume. Heavy lifting, including lifting your children, stays restricted for six weeks or longer.

  4. Months 2–6 Results settle

Swelling fades gradually and your results refine. Scars keep softening over 12 to 18 months.

Support along the way

  • EXPAREL®

A long-acting, non-opioid local anesthetic given during surgery, designed to ease pain for up to 72 hours. Relief varies; ask whether it's right for your plan.

  • Lymphatic massage

On-site post-operative lymphatic massage, once Dr. Tehrani clears you.

  • Follow-up care

Scheduled follow-up visits and compression garments, with your patient coordinator a call or a text away.

Plan your help

  • Who will lift and carry little ones for the first six weeks?
  • Who covers school runs, activities and night wakings?
  • Who will handle meals for the first two weeks?
  • Who will drive you home and stay with you at first?

Ask Dr. Tehrani how to hold and comfort little ones safely while you heal, and when you can carry them again.

Typical ranges for planning only. Recovery varies with the procedures combined and with your health.

What does a mommy makeover include?

It's a personalized combination of procedures, not a set package. The most common are a tummy tuck, which can include repair of abdominal muscles that separated during pregnancy (diastasis recti), a breast lift, breast augmentation and liposuction. Some patients also discuss a breast reduction, an arm or thigh lift, labiaplasty or non-surgical skin tightening. Dr. Tehrani recommends a combination after evaluating you in person.

When is the right time, and what if I want more children?

Dr. Tehrani generally recommends waiting at least six months after your last pregnancy and three months after you finish breastfeeding, and being at or near a stable weight. Ideally you've finished having children: a future pregnancy or significant weight change can affect your results, so if you're planning more children, waiting is usually recommended. Not sure? You can talk it through at your consultation.

Is it safe to have everything done at once?

Every surgery carries risk. Combining procedures can mean one anesthetic and one recovery, but a longer operation can also raise certain risks, such as blood clots. Dr. Tehrani decides whether to combine or stage procedures based on your health and your plan. In his words: “I limit anesthesia time to six hours, because the risk increases meaningfully after that.” Surgery takes place in a QUAD A–accredited surgical facility, with general anesthesia given by a board-certified anesthesiologist or a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA).

How much time off will I need?

Plan on at least two weeks away from work and caregiving. Many patients take two to four weeks, depending on the procedures combined and the demands of their job, and most daily activities resume within four to six weeks. Dr. Tehrani will give you a personal timeline.

When can I pick up my children again?

Heavy lifting, including lifting young children, is restricted for six weeks or longer. Plan for another adult to take charge of little ones, especially in the first two weeks. Light walking starts early. Ask Dr. Tehrani how to hold and comfort your children safely while you heal; he will tell you when you are cleared to lift.

Will a tummy tuck remove stretch marks or my C-section scar?

A tummy tuck removes stretch marks only on the skin that is removed. An existing C-section scar can often be incorporated into the tummy tuck incision, which is placed low so it can sit within underwear or bikini lines. Scars are permanent. They typically soften and fade over 12 to 18 months, and sometimes longer.

How is pain managed, and will I have drains?

Some discomfort is expected in the first days. The practice offers EXPAREL®, a long-acting, non-opioid local anesthetic given during surgery and designed to ease pain for up to 72 hours; relief varies, so ask whether it's right for your plan. Drains may be used after a tummy tuck to prevent fluid buildup, and are removed at a follow-up visit. You'll wear compression garments for several weeks.

When will I see my results?

Swelling hides some of the change at first and settles gradually over the first months. Results continue to refine over roughly three to six months, and scars keep fading after that. Individual results vary.

How much does a mommy makeover cost? Is financing available?

Cost depends on the procedures you combine, the complexity of your plan and the surgical facility, so there's no single price. You receive a personalized quote at your consultation. Cosmetic procedures are self-pay. Monthly payment plans are available through CareCredit®, Alphaeon® Credit and Cherry, subject to credit approval; terms vary by lender.

Can I start with a virtual consultation?

Yes. Virtual consultations by video are available to talk through your goals and options, and an in-person evaluation is required before surgery. If photos would help, our team will explain how to send them securely; please don't include photos or medical details in this form.
